Time to breathe

It's been a little while since I last posted. It's been crazy around here, but I finally have a little quiet time since Jude is napping and Julia is at lunch with her uncle Bret and his girlfriend, Lyuba.

Clare arrived last Sunday afternoon to begin painting on the kitchen cabinets. For 2 1/2 days, we were like 2 tornadoes wielding paintbrushes. We hung the doors at around 9:30 Tuesday night and the results are amazing. I LOVE the way it turned out. Clean, fresh, and warm. We will hopefully replace the countertops this fall/winter.

Tuesday morning, Bryce's Grandma Gayle passed away, so amidst the mess of a dismantled kitchen, we had quite a bit to deal with. She was a wonderful woman, who always handled everything with dignity and class. She suffered so much toward the end, so we are happy that she is now at peace.

Friday evening my brother, Bret, and his girlfriend flew in from New York and are staying until tomorrow when they will head up to Mom and Dads for the rest of the week. They went to the Husker game (sad as it was) yesterday, and Bryce went downtown to watch it with friends. I worked on my latest garage sale acquisition - a new kitchen table, and enjoyed just being here at home with the kids. I watched part of the game, but frankly it was just too sad to watch, so I went to sleep shortly after half time.

The house is quiet and I should lay down and take a nap or something, but I'm looking at the light fixture over the kitchen table and thinking that I'm going to take it down and paint it black.

I know you've been chomping at the bit for pictures of the kitchen (HA!), so here you go...
